The purpose of this course is to provide you with core knowledge and understanding of characteristics, terms and features of products in the investments class of business (which includes the Retail Pension Benefits sub-class), including typical fee structures, charges and other risks associated with investing, purchasing or transacting in these products. This course will also provide knowledge of legislation impacting investment products and the tax implications of these products.
This knowledge is essential when assessing different product options, selecting suitable investment portfolios and providing advice to clients on investment products.
In this course, we will build on the knowledge of Economic and Investment Overview course (such as the impact of applicable economic and environmental factors including business cycle, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy), as well as the Financial Services Overview (such as the main legislative and regulatory environment, role-players and participants in the financial planning investment industry, and applicable codes of conduct).
Once you have completed this course you will be able to:
- identify the main role-players and market participants in the financial services industry, including their legal structure.
- demonstrate understanding of general legislation and codes of conduct applicable to the financial services industry.
- describe the range of asset classes typically used in the construction of investment portfolios.
- describe the characteristics, terms and features of products in the investments class of business.
- describe the typical fee structures, charges and other costs associated with products in the investments class of business.
- describe the general risks associated with investing, purchasing or transacting in products in the investments class of business.
- explain how specific aspects of the Collective Investment Schemes Control Act (CISCA), income tax and pension funds acts will impact on products in the investments class of business.
- describe the impact of applicable economic and environmental factors such as economic business cycles, inflation, monetary and fiscal policies, interest rates and exchange rates on specific sub-categories of long-term insurance products (included for assessment purposes).
- assess the appropriateness of different products in the investments class of business.
- describe the principles, options and strategies applicable to specific products in the investment class of business to suit the needs of different investors.
- explain the tax implications applicable to products in the investments class of business.
